Swingman Rangefinder

Watch how the Swingman connects to TheGrint app and delivers real-time distances on the course.

01 — Setup

Before You Begin

Three quick settings to verify before using your Swingman Rangefinder for the first time.

Verify your TheGrint PRO Membership

Go to your Profile in TheGrint, Click on the settings gear icon, then Membership. Sign-up or verify that your account is has an Active PRO Membership to enable Connected Features.

Enable Bluetooth

Turn on Bluetooth in your phone’s settings and ensure the TheGrint app has Bluetooth permission. On iOS go to Settings → Bluetooth. On Android use the quick settings panel.

Set Location to Always

Open your phone’s Location Settings for TheGrint and set it to “Always” (not “Only While Using App”). This lets GPS data flow to your Rangefinder even when the app is backgrounded.

Enable GPS Map Tracking

Always start a round in TheGrint before measuring distances. Your phone’s GPS sends live location data to the Rangefinder — the map screen must be active for this to work.

Location Permissions Are Critical If Front, Center, or Back distances show “0” or aren’t updating, it’s almost always a location permission issue. Set TheGrint location access to “Always” to resolve this.

02 — Connection

Quick-Start Connection Guide

Follow these four steps to pair your Swingman with TheGrint app and start playing.

1

Go to Your Account in TheGrint App

Open TheGrint and tap Account in the bottom navigation, then tap Rangefinder from the menu.

Path: App → Menu → My Profile → Settings (Gear Logo) → Rangefinder
2

Tap “Pair” Under Rangefinder

In the Rangefinder settings screen tap Pair. The app will walk you through all the settings, then it will begin scanning for nearby Bluetooth devices.

3

Power On Your Swingman

Press the POWER button on your Swingman. The display will activate and the device will begin broadcasting its Bluetooth signal for the app to detect.

Tip: Keep your Swingman within 2–3 feet of your phone while pairing for the strongest signal.
4

Confirm the Connection

Once detected, press POWER again to shoot a distance. The reading on your Swingman should match what appears in TheGrint. Tap Yes, Connect to finalise pairing.

What to look for: The distance on the Swingman display should match the distance in the app. If it matches, tap “Yes, Connect”.
You’re Connected! Once paired, your Swingman will automatically reconnect each time you power it on — no need to repeat these steps.

03 — PRO Features

Using the Pro Features

These advanced features require a PRO Membership on TheGrint, a connected Rangefinder and an active round in TheGrint app.

Start a Round

Once your Rangefinder is connected, start a round in TheGrint. This activates the GPS link between your phone and device, enabling real-time distance data during play.

Enter GPS Mode

Select GPS in the upper-right corner of the app. Click the POWER button to turn on the Rangefinder, and make sure the the bluetooth symbol is visbile in the viewfinder to begin streaming live GPS distances to the display.

Get Distances & Flags

Measure distances in real time and view green information on screen. Lock onto the flag or hit it with regular distances to get the Relative Pin Position.

Relative Pin Position

Jolt provides tactile confirmation that you’ve locked onto the flag — not a tree or hazard behind it.

Centre the Crosshair

Aim crosshairs at the flag. Press & hold the POWER button and wobble the circle. ALTERNATE METHOD: Start to the left or right of the flag, hold the trigger, then slowly drag the centre circle across the flagstick. The Jolt vibration fires on lock confirmation. You will see a green shape pop up with the front-to-back Relative Pin Position.

TIP You do not need to lock onto the flag for the Pin Position.

Maintain Line-of-Sight

Always ensure a clear line-of-sight to the flag to reduce the chance of locking onto background objects like overhanging branches.

Keep Phone Close

Keep your phone near your ball position to keep Front/Center/Back distances accurate. GPS accuracy improves significantly the closer the phone is to your shot.

06 — Modes

Modes & Functions

The Swingman supports multiple measurement and display modes. Use the M button to cycle through them.

Standard Mode Default

Basic laser ranging. Press the trigger to measure the nearest object in your line of sight — perfect for fast, on-the-fly readings.

Flag Lock / Jolt

Filters background objects and locks exclusively onto the flagstick. A pulsed vibration (Jolt) confirms lock acquisition before every shot.

Slope Mode Practice Only

Calculates a “plays-like” distance adjusted for elevation. Uphill targets show greater distance; downhill targets show reduced distance.

GPS Mode TheGrint AppPro

When connected and in an active round, shows real-time Front, Center, and Back of green distances simultaneously on your display.

Scan Mode Continuous

Hold the trigger to continuously update distances. Ideal for surveying the full depth of a green or checking multiple targets without re-pressing.

Units Toggle Yds / Mtrs

Hold the M button for 2–3 seconds to switch between Yards and Meters. The active unit is always shown above the main laser distance on the left side of the display.

07 — Help

Tips & Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions from Swingman users.

Why doesn’t my Rangefinder show Green distances on the right side of the screen?
Ensure your device is paired and connected. Press the M or Bluetooth button to make sure bluetooth is on. Check settings in the Profile → Account → Rangefinder. If still not appearing, update the TheGrint app, disconnect the Rangefinder from Profile settings, then reconnect from scratch.
How do I lock onto the flag using the Jolt feature?
Aim the crosshairs at the flag or to the left or right of the flag. Press and hold the trigger, then slowly drag the centre circle across the flagstick. Ensure there is a clear line-of-sight to avoid locking onto background objects like tree branches.
My Bluetooth data doesn’t appear on the right side of the display. What should I do?
Ensure Bluetooth is active and you are within 50ft of your phone. Press the M button once to toggle Bluetooth data display. If still failing, disconnect and reconnect the Rangefinder from Profile settings, sign back into TheGrint, and re-pair.
What if the yardages in the Rangefinder don’t match TheGrint app?
Confirm units match on both the Rangefinder and the app (both Yards or both Meters). Also verify the round in TheGrint is on the correct hole number. Hold the M button for 2–3 seconds to switch units on the device.
How long does the battery last and how do I charge it?
The Swingman Rangefinder typically lasts 5–8 hours on a full charge. Charge via the USB-C port under the rubber side flap. A full charge takes approximately 1–2 hours.
Can I use the Swingman in tournament play?
Yes — in Standard, Flag Lock, and GPS modes. Slope Mode must be disabled for tournament use as elevation-adjusted distances are not permitted under the Rules of Golf in competition.
How do I adjust the eyepiece for clear focus?
Use the diopter ring around the eyepiece and rotate slowly while looking at a clear target until the reticle and numbers are sharp. This is personal to each user and typically only needs to be set once.

08 — Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting Guide

Step-by-step fixes for the most common issues with your Swingman Rangefinder.

Rangefinder won’t pair or connect to the app

Steps to resolve

  1. Confirm Bluetooth is enabled and TheGrint has Bluetooth permission in your phone settings.
  2. Power cycle your Swingman — hold Power to turn off, then press again to restart.
  3. Force-close and reopen TheGrint on your phone.
  4. Navigate to Profile → Account → Rangefinder, tap Disconnect, then reconnect from scratch.
  5. Check whether another phone is already connected — the Swingman can only pair with one device at a time.
GPS distances show “0” or are not updating

Steps to resolve

  1. Go to Settings → TheGrint → Location and set to “Always”.
  2. Ensure a round is actively started inside TheGrint — GPS mode only works during an active round.
  3. Confirm you are on the correct hole in the app — hole number must match your position on the course.
  4. Keep your phone as close to your ball as possible. Leaving it in the cart causes inaccurate readings.
  5. Move away from structures or dense tree cover and wait 10–15 seconds for GPS to stabilise.
Bluetooth data not appearing on the right side of the display

Steps to resolve

  1. Ensure you are within 50 feet of your phone — Bluetooth range is limited on the course.
  2. Press the M button once to toggle Bluetooth data display and refresh it.
  3. Disconnect and reconnect the Rangefinder from the Profile settings in the app.
  4. Update TheGrint to the latest version via the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Sign out and back into TheGrint, then re-pair the Rangefinder from scratch.
Distance readings are inaccurate or inconsistent

Steps to resolve

  1. Ensure a clear, unobstructed line-of-sight to the target — avoid shooting through glass, mesh, or dense brush.
  2. Clean the front lens with the included cloth — smudges and moisture cause degraded readings.
  3. Verify units match between the Rangefinder and TheGrint app — a Yards/Meters mismatch is a common cause.
  4. In bright sunlight, hold the trigger steady and wait for the reading to stabilise before recording.
  5. Confirm the round is on the correct hole in TheGrint — GPS distances are tied to specific hole coordinates.
Battery draining too quickly

Steps to resolve

  1. Power off manually between holes instead of relying solely on auto-off.
  2. Always start each round with a fully charged device.
  3. Use single-shot mode instead of holding the trigger continuously when scanning is not needed.
  4. In cold conditions, keep the device in your bag between holes — cold reduces battery performance.
  5. If the battery no longer holds charge, contact support for a replacement assessment.
Display or optics appear blurry

Steps to resolve

  1. Adjust the diopter ring around the eyepiece — rotate slowly until the reticle and numbers are sharp.
  2. Clean the eyepiece lens with the included cloth using gentle circular motions.
  3. Clean the front objective lens as well — debris here reduces clarity even if the diopter is set correctly.
  4. Avoid touching lens surfaces directly with fingers — skin oils cause smearing that degrades optical performance.
